The lack of an alveolar bone distractor with capability of simultaneous ridge elevation and expansion means that patients with alveolar bone deficiencies in both dimensions have to pass either two consecutive distraction stages in a lengthier clinical procedure, or go through a unidirectional distraction while the remaining deficiency is handled by the less favorable process of bone augmentation.
